The West Virginia Family to Family Health Information Center is part of a national information network for families of children and youth with special health care needs. The Center provides help for families who are looking for family-friendly health care information.
The goal of the Center is to improve health care and health care supports throughout West Virginia for children with developmental delays, chronic illnesses and special needs by empowering families to advocate for their children and youth. The statewide Health Information Center reflects a family-directed focus.
What does the Center do?
Family to Family (F2F) Health Information Center staff and partners:
- Provide information to families about help that is available and how to get it
- Teach families how to advocate for themselves and family members
- Recruit family mentors to assist other families that have children with special health care needs
- Help families plan how to transition into adult health care
- Develop and provide trainings
- Communicate with families via an e-mail listserv, web page and telephone hotline about materials and resources available
- Work with health care providers to promote successful health delivery models.
Who is Involved?
The West Virginia Family to Family Health Information Center has many partners, but chief among them are families of children and youth with special health care needs.
The Center is staffed by family members of children and youth with special health care needs.
The Center is a partnership between West Virginia Parent Training Information, Inc. and the Center for Excellence in Disabilities at West Virginia University.
